mENTAL hEALTH FOOTBALL WALES

Our emphasis is on friendship, fun and for everyone to leave with a smile on their face.

MHFW is a registered Welsh charity, an FAW‑affiliated partner, a recognised Disability Football Club, and a Founding Partner of the South Wales Pan Disability League. We take an inclusive, trauma‑informed, pan‑disability approach across everything we do.

The charity began as a lockdown support group formed in response to the tragic and preventable loss of a young man. It has since grown into an organisation led entirely by people with lived experience of mental health challenges.

What makes us so unique is that we’re a charity that’s fully owned and delivered by members with lived experience of mental health with every one having a vote on its future development, direction, strategy and delivery.

Today, we provide a welcoming, inclusive environment offering football‑based wellbeing activities for adults with lived experience of mental ill‑health, and for those with physical, learning, intellectual, sensory, or psychological disabilities.

Do you miss football?

Living with mental health issues can be frightening, lonely and confusing. We believe that everyone should have their voice heard and should not be forgotten. We strive to be a safe port in the storm offering support, inclusion, empathy and understanding.

All of our activities are planned with members, delivered by volunteer members. We have now supported hundreds of members to access training in courses such as Suicide Awareness, Disability Inclusion, Mental Health Awareness, Mental Health for Sport and Physical Activity alongside traditional coaching routes.

We want what we do to have a genuine and sustainable impact which starts with creating a safe environment where people can feel heard, normalising the conversation around mental health and suicide.

Over the last 5 years, the charity has developed significant links and collaborated with community partners in the sector, building a positive reputation as a provider of activities for people impacted by mental health.
